Reflection

  1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? Conventions are used in our product as we tap into some recurring themes in the music video. To meet the "typical" Christmas music video that one could see in western media, snow has been added to the establishing shot. In an effort to tie the music video into a theme, our editor also employed the same color palette as the majority of Christmas music videos. The video is filled with bright and vibrant reds and greens. As the actor, I made sure to use angles and actions in the music video that are really playful and almost childlike. Our music video challenges conventions because it doesn't have background characters singing and dancing as a high-end, high-budget Christmas music video would.  We also portray a man as the main actor which also is not common in a Christmas music video as it challenges gender roles that come with being a male. 2. Have a great time watching our video!

All done :)

Hey blog, I'm back. The editing for the video is officially done. Elton was editing for 2 hours straight to finish. Elton, Luke, and I were in a group call, all putting ideas on the board. We had a lot of fun just brainstorming.  Elton took the ideas and made them real. Most of the editing was cutting up clips and putting them into the appropriate place in the song. Elton spotted that a clip of me in front of the big light up reindeer had a problem. The lighting in the background was to bright and shined into the lens, marking the clip unusable. The best clip that we got was of me underneath a giant Christmas tree. It was in thee middle of the mall and there was a huge display. The video has added filters and the lighting is set to match the theme. I am proud of the video and the work put in by me and my group members. I am happy to share these experiences with my groupmates. I thank my group members for making the experience enjoyable even with its up's and down's. For now

Almost finished!

Hey blog! Just finished my homework for the night. Playing soccer at Holiday park was really fun on Sunday. We all had a blast and ended up playing until 6pm. I am really happy with the clips we got at the mall. Each scene we filmed had its own Christmas vibe to match the song. I was surprised how almost every single video came out clear and only one of them was blurry. We ended up having almost 20 different clips to use. Elton is going to be the one doing the editing for the video. Luke and I will help him with ideas on how to put the videos together. Elton is going to wait a couple of days to start editing. Until then I have just been doing homework. I have also been studying for the midterms coming up. We will be playing soccer at Holiday park this Sunday as well. I am very excited to play soccer with my friends again. The soccer cleats that my dad got me came in the mail. I tried them on and I love them. They fit so well and have padding all around. Anyways, can't wait to see

The Filming

Hey blog, it has been one day since we filmed. Yesterday, after writing my newest blog, Koby drove us to the mall. The drive was short, only about 15 minutes. We were listening to music the whole time because I plugged my phone into the auxiliary cord. When we got to the mall we found a parking space close to the entrance quickly. I would have thought the mall was going to be packed because it was a saturday but it was not. Walking into the mall we already had some filming locations in our heads. We would have to look for each one of them because sometimes the mall changes their decorations. We actually made out with a much better situation than expected. The mall was filled with festivity, a fake santa, a sack of presents, there were Christmas trees, and fake gingerbread men. At first Elton was filming me in regular clothes but then we decided we needed Christmas clothes. We ran to Macy's and bought some Christmas clothes. We were then just walking around filming in places we tho

Just before filming

Hey blog, I am back. After school yesterday, I went to work and then went back home to get some rest for today. It has already been a great day and we still have not even gone to film. Since I did not have work today Elton, Luke and I went bowling with our friends Koby and Matt. The first game, a warm up, was won by Luke. Today, like every other day we bowl we bet $5 on the second game. It is just for the added competition I guess. While bowling I use the 10lb ball and try to be as precise as possible. The 10lb ball is also on the heavier side so it has more force. Elton ended up winning the second game along with all the money. After, I went into the arcade and I got some pizza. For some bowling alley pizza it really was tasty. I am still full from that pizza. In about two hours we will all go to Galleria Mall and start the filming process. Luke has all of the props needed in his backpack. I have a speaker for the music as well. I am also excited to go to the mall because of the food

Set a date!

Hey blog, me again. I asked my dad about buying me those cleats and he said he would for Christmas. I hope they get here before sunday so I can play in them. Luke and I finalized the plan and we are going to play at Holiday Park at 3pm on Sunday. I even heard that a couple of our school friends are coming as well. It was the plan to film, even just a little without Elton, but we decided to wait for him. It makes everything more simple so we can all be on the same page. Today I was on the phone with Luke talking about the day. We added Elton to the call so we could figure out a date to film. We had to get it done due to midterms coming up. We all did not want even more stress. Elton said he would tell his coach that he is going to take time off practice to film. So we made it official. We are going to start filming this weekend. We have most of the weekend to hang out too! Tomorrow I have work after school. I work from 5pm-10pm. I have also just found out that someone wants to pick up

Waiting for the right time

Hey blog! My group and I have been unable to meet recently. Elton constantly has wrestling or school work. Whereas Luke and I are unable to drive the distance to each other that easily. My mother is typically working until 6pm. Due to the fact that my group can not film right now I have been working on school. I have also been studying for my chemistry exam. Another thing I have been able to do is complete all my missing assignments from missed school days. The group is just waiting until the perfect time to meet. We will be able to film the whole video in one day as well. Since I am the "actor" in my group I do not really have any preparation to do for filming. Usually, Elton is the one doing most of the preparation but for this project Luke has been working the most. He has been getting props at stores for the video. Even his mom is helping him. I have also brought up the idea of going to the park to play soccer with Luke this weekend. I am not sure what time we are going
