All Done!

Hey blog. I need to announce that my group and I have completely finished our project. It has left a bitter sweet taste in my mouth but I am truly glad it is over. It is such a great feeling to see the short film, postcard, and website all finished side by side. It is almost overwhelming looking back on all the work that I have completed. Starting all the way back over a year ago taking AS level Media to finally finishing my last project for A level media. Time truly flew by and I will miss all the fun times. From traveling from location to location while filming. To relaxing in my room brewing up ideas with my fellow group mates. I cant imagine high school without AICE Media. Although it saddens me to completely wrap up this project, I am also grateful. Completing the project now gives me much more time to focus on my other classes this year. Exam season is right around the corner and since I am taking 7 AICE classes, that means I have 14 EXAMS in less than 2 MONTHS time. I also ...

Working on the Postcard

Image
Hey blog! For the past few weeks all I could think about was filming and editing the short film. My group mates and I have paid little attention to the website and postcard. Which was not the smartest thing to do. However, since the editing and filming has been completed already I have the time to focus on the other products. My main job is to work on the postcard. I need to make it as thrilling and horror inducing as possible, and that is what I plan to do. I can already envision the final product. Blood red text with a dripping font to give the effect that the words are bleeding. I have already gathered the artwork for the postcard as well! Earlier in the day I drove over to Holiday Park, where we filmed, and took some photos I think would be great for the front of the postcard. I also went to a parking garage where I snapped some pictures of my car for the back of the postcard. I thought using my car on the postcard would be a great form of foreshadowing the vehicle that is used to ...

Finished Editing!

Image
Hey, blog! As we go deeper into our editing phase we believe we have every problem figured out. We were surprised to discover that, despite meticulous editing to ensure we stayed under budget, we had an amazing 13 minutes of footage left. Reducing it was quite challenging, particularly because there were so many filler clips depicting commonplace activities like brushing one's teeth and hair. Since we were dedicated to achieving our objective, we overcome multiple obstacles to finish the editing process. Every day brought us closer to the finish line, and as time passed, the anticipation grew. Especially due to our upcoming AP and AICE exams for the months of April and May. Slowly but surely we made progress, refining every clip and transition, towards the final cut. Our tiredness was relieved by the gratification of watching all our work turn into a great film.  When selecting the best photos, we made sure that each frame contributed significantly to the narrative. As t...

Editing Ideas: C.L.A.M.P.S.

Image
Hey, blog!  Throughout the 5-minute video, our decisions are guided by the concepts of mise en scène and C.L.A.M.P.S. media vocabulary. By positioning actors, establishing the mood, and positioning accessories, mise en scène enables us to create scenes and make sure every shot tells our story. Camera angles, lighting, audio, performance, and special effects are examples of C.L.A.M.P.S. media concepts that improve our editing process and give our photographs more depth and meaning. Our film develops with each edit, each shot thoughtfully chosen to tell a coherent and compelling tale. Set design, lighting, and costumes create the right tone and evoke feelings in the audience. By putting the audience at the center of the action, movement and camera angles enhance the story. As the editing process ends, excitement grows. Our efforts are rewarded as the film comes together flawlessly. It just needs a few finishing touches , like sound effects and titles, to elevate our work ...

Continuing Editing

Image
Hey, blog! After weeks of intense work, my group and I are happy to present the finished product of our final video project. The outcome is far better than we had anticipated , demonstrating the value of our persistence. This time, unlike the first time, everything went together without any problems. We skillfully and confidently guided the filming process with a clear vision and strong direction. We simplified the way we filmed, using a well-organized strategy to direct our efforts. This allowed us to concentrate just on getting real and emotionally impactful shots.   Even though we were filming in the same park, we took a "less is more" approach, giving priority to the scenes necessary to tell our tale. The days of shooting a ton of film and taking extra takes are long gone; instead, we now adopt a more deliberate and direct approach. After filming was complete, we felt a wave of achievement since we knew every shot we took helped make our project a success. We ar...

Editing Mess-up: Vertical vs. Horizontal

Image
Hey, blog!  Film-making requires exacting attention to detail and a combination of technical skill and imagination. Our group recently had a setback in our endeavor to create a five-minute video, which taught us important lessons about how important it is to follow good film-making practices. Our error? filming in a vertical rather than a horizontal orientation—a seemingly insignificant mistake with serious consequences . We went into production with a strong screenplay and a distinct concept, initially full of energy. However, we discovered our camera misalignment throughout the editing process.   The vertical footage that is frequently seen in informal smartphone recordings presented difficulties for our career goals. It confused scenes and broke the flow of the story. The sudden changes in frames created the illusion of an incomplete rather than well-executed piece of work. We weren't happy with the result because the choppiness didn't go away even after we tried t...
